Companion tier list
Companions are cosmetic in EA — the “tier” reflects rarity, animation quality and community desirability, not combat stats. Combat Pets (Ranger-only) are ranked by combat performance.
All companions, full S/A/B tier list, capture mechanics, and how Ranger combat pets differ from cosmetic companions.

Two completely separate systems. Companions are cosmetic critters that any class can have. They do not fight, do not scale, and only exist for emotes and world reactions. Ranger combat pets are part of the Ranger class talent tree. They fight, hold aggro, scale with Ranger gear and are essential to the S-tier Pet Sniper Ranger build.
You can run one companion + one combat pet at the same time on a Ranger character — for example, a Blue-feather Hawk companion (cosmetic) plus a Wolf Pup combat pet (tank). Other classes can only have the companion slot.
Currently companions are pure cosmetic. Shiro Games has hinted at a future “bond” system in Discord Q&As but no committed roadmap entry exists. If it ships, expect XP bars and possibly minor passives — but this is speculation, not confirmed.
Companions are non-combat critters that follow your character around the world. They emote and react to the world but do not fight. You unlock companions through specific quest chains (Catch a Companion, Gotta Catch One, Hidden Critter, H. Catchum). One companion slot is active at a time but you can swap from the stable UI.
Companions are cosmetic, usable by any class, and do not scale. Ranger combat pets fight at your side, hold aggro and scale with the Ranger talent tree. You can have one of each active simultaneously.
Blue-feather Hawk (S-tier) is the most popular for its rare emote set and shoulder-perch animation. Glow-bug (S-tier) is the only night-cycle glowing companion. See the full tier list above.
Buy a Capture Net (Hunter NPC, 5g) for basic companions or a Bug Net (Alchemist NPC, 15g) for Hidden Critter quest critters. Walk-approach (sprinting makes them flee), throw the net, succeed roughly 70% on first attempt and 100% on second.
No — the quests are repeatable on alts. The H. Catchum unique variant is one-time per character but the quest itself can be re-run. No companion is permanently gated.
One active at a time. You can rotate any caught companion from the stable UI in any town hub. The active companion follows you around the world; the rest are stored in the stable.
No, they are purely cosmetic in EA. Shiro Games has hinted at a future "companion bond" system but it is not in the published roadmap.
Behind the eastern Skyover waterfall. The cave entrance is hidden — climb behind the falling water to reveal it. Contains the Ladybug companion for the Gotta Catch One quest.
Compare: Critters vs Companions — see the Hidden Critter full guide for the quest-specific critter drops; this page covers the broader companion roster.
Best companions for your build? Cross-reference the Farever class tier list (Ranger Pet Sniper build relies on the Wolf Pup combat pet).
